Retour à Paris

image

Just about to board the Eurostar for a weekend of shopping and Paris followed by a few nights in the South with my partner in crime. Without the laptop this week so I’ll be back on the blog radar on Friday. Can’t wait to share it all with you when I’m back!

In the meantime, make sure you follow Metrojournal on Bloglovin’ for all my updates. Have a great weekend!

5 Tips to Smash Your Interview

interviewEndless applications, CV drafts and redrafts, working for free… the job hunt continues. I know a lot of you are in the same boat- sucks, doesn’t it? With that in mind I thought I’d put together a few of the interview tips I’ve gleaned from various sources- my time in a recruitment firm, the couple of interviews I’ve had recently and my fount of knowledge, my mother.

Chai Tea TLC

image Now this weekend I had big plans to bring you a Bank Holiday Brunch special with cinnamon bagels, juice and my version of eggs benedict– it was going to be beautiful, trust me. Unfortunately yesterday I went and got myself knocked off my bike, somehow simultaneously bashing up my chin, elbow, knee and head in the process. See my battered bike helmet above- that, kids, is why you always wear a helmet. Continue reading

Send & Receive

postcards

This week was quite a hectic one with not one but two interviews to prepare for. Cue lots of running around London, ransacking my wardrobe in search of a good outfit and just visualising the large glass of wine waiting for me at the end of it. So it was a nice surprise when I saw a little handwritten envelope waiting for me on the doormat postmarked Nashville, TN. My Dad shouted up, ‘Kate- there’s something from America for you here!’

Food Lover: creative cooking on the 5:2 diet

diet2

Two weeks in and I’m rather enjoying this Fast Diet lark. And so, it seems, does the entire adult population of the UK- you only have to glance at the plethora of 5:2 variations in Waterstone’s to see how much of a bandwagon it is that I’ve jumped right on. This is probably because it really doesn’t feel like a diet at all- I eat what I want most days and quite like the challenge of having to be creative with recipes on the 2 fast days. Waking up with a flatter stomach than normal the next morning is just the icing on the cake, as it were. Continue reading

Makeover Time – Laura Mercier

wpid-1368807559692-1.jpg

On Friday I decided I was stuck in a rut makeup-wise and hot-footed it to the beauty counter at Liberty. As part of their Brushes with Greatness event they are  holding makeover sessions with a whole host of talented makeup artists this month, so I booked in with  Chris Howells from  Laura Mercier for a day-look overhaul.

What I’m Reading in the Bath

I usually have about three books on the go– one in my handbag for the train, one for weekends, and one to read in the bath. Some of the latter have been known to get covered in bubbles but it’s worth it. Here’s what’s been in my book pile this month:

New to the blogosphere: Feed Your Bliss

Doris is the craziest, most well-travelled, zen, entertaining person I had the pleasure of meeting on my travels. She’s also the healthiest. Like, gives-Gwyneth-Paltrow-a-run-for-her-money healthy. She introduced me to raw chocolate and soon will be publishing all her delicious recipes. In her own words her blog, Feed Your Bliss, is ‘a wonderful world of awe, yum, colours, creations galore and abundance of fresh flavours, experiences and thrills, travel, connections, touch, love and pleasure of life’. Late to the Party: Girls

Girls

Since getting back to the UK after 7 months away I’ve been pretty out of the loop on most things. I only just got Twitter. I only saw one and a half episodes of Broadchurch. The first time I heard Daft Punk’s Get Lucky was when it hit number 1. (This from a girl who used to be a student radio presenter.) Continue reading

Yorkshire Tea Trail

image

Sometimes when you’ve had a long, frustrating week, which is more often than not when you’re still living with your parents, the best thing to do is to hop on a train to see your bestie. So this weekend I took the 2 hour train from London to Leeds. Goodbye Hertfordshire, hello Yorkshire and hello Maria! Continue reading
