Makeover Time – Laura Mercier

On Friday I decided I was stuck in a rut makeup-wise and hot-footed it to the beauty counter at Liberty. As part of their Brushes with Greatness event they are  holding makeover sessions with a whole host of talented makeup artists this month, so I booked in with  Chris Howells from  Laura Mercier for a day-look overhaul.

First up though, a stern telling-off from Bruno as he massaged a beautiful moisturiser into my wind-beaten cyclist’s skin: “Do you wear primer?”

“No…”

“And why not?”

“Because… I don’t have one….”

(In my defence since becoming reacquainted with my makeup collection last month, most of my products are either way past their best or have worked their way into my magpie-like mother’s makeup bag).wpid-1368807536105-1.jpg

Next up Chris broke me out of my stay-safe makeup routine as shown in the picture on the right (foundation, concealer, cream eyeshadow, liquid eyeliner, mascara, bronze-blush-bob’s your uncle. Always in that order. No deviation unless it’s a Friday and I’m feeling special.). He worked some magic with my eyes, applying a liner underneath the lash line and mixing a cream shadow with darker brown into the lashes for depth, framing them beautifully by filling in my brows, which I never normally do (ahem… can be bothered to do.)

My skin was bronzer-free, more of a dewy glowing look with a touch of blush whilst still letting my freckles show which I loved. Lastly, a pop of Mango colour on my lips. A lady who’d stopped to watch fully approved of that one so I obviously then bought it.

Walked away in the end with the Moisture Supreme foundation, a Summer-ready replacement for my heavier Bobbi Brown Extra Repair foundation. It’s light  but with enough coverage to disguise my red one-glass-of-wine cheeks before a night out, so I’m impressed. And yes, blowing the budget completely, I couldn’t resist the Crème Smooth lippie in Mango. I’m a balm addict but this one is so creamy it’s in danger of making me a bona fide lipstick convert.

The rest have taken pride of place on my birthday wishlist unless somebody decides to employ me before then.

  4. We highly appreciate your blog post. There are lots of means we could put it to proper use while using minimal effort with time and capital. Thank you so much for helping make this post answer many issues we have got before now.

  5. Michelle – been enjoying the different colored valentines you’ve been making this week – good examples, and I needed to break out of the pink/red/white box! I think those big flowers might prove useful also – sign me up. And thanks again for all you do – week after week…!
